- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan. In a bowl, combine cake mix, applesauce, water, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until smooth. Pour into pan and bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool completely.
- Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs in a large bowl.
- Mix cake crumbs with frosting until it holds together. Adjust with more frosting if too dry.
- Roll mixture into 1-inch balls and place on a lined baking sheet.
- Melt chocolate or candy coating according to package instructions until smooth.
- Dip the tip of a lollipop stick into the coating, insert into each cake ball, and chill for 30 minutes. Dip each cake pop into the coating and add toppings before it hardens.
